Juice to Fight Fibro Fog (Brain Fog)
Having suffered with fibromyalgia for almost twenty years I remember the days I’d have such intense fibro fog that I’d be in a conversation with a close friend, even a family member and in my head I’d be thinking ‘What is their name?’. I’d literally forget their name from one sentence to the next.
Other times I’d feel like I was in a space like cloud feeling so sluggish in my thoughts it felt as if I were drunk. That is what most any fibromyalgia warrior deals with on a daily basis, forgetfulness, lack of being able to concentrate, feeling spacey in the head, and overall confusion. It’s an awful feeling to deal with on a daily basis.
Fibro fog, or brain fog, can be caused by several things but for me personally the biggest factor has been my diet. If I start to eat gluten or sugar the first thing I notice is the difference in mental clarity. It’s just not worth the cheat.
After living here now in Italy for almost six months I finally got a juicer! So it’s been so long since I’ve had a refreshing alkalizing green juice. This green juice recipe was the first juice I made with my new juicer, and it’s amazing the instant pick-me-up and increased mental clarity I felt after drinking it. Green juice is a must in my diet and boy have I missed it. But, I didn’t realize it until I took my first sip…I guess absence does make the heart grow fonder, lol!
This juice is filled with potent healing nutrients and while it might sound odd juicing broccoli, Swiss chard and other normally strong green flavors, with some added apples for sweetness if turns it into such a refreshing sweet drink.
It contains broccoli, which is one of the best brain foods out there. It has vitamin K and choline that helps keep your memory sharp. The great thing about juicing is you can use all the stems of food that you’d normally throw out, or hopefully at least compost. So when I use broccoli I always set aside all the leaves and stems for later juicing, so there’s zero waste.
Chronic inflammation has beed linked to brain fog. So the more anti-inflammatory foods you eat the better it is. That’s why the plant-based diet is so important, fruits and veggies are anti-inflammatory.
Celery is filled with antioxidants, anti-inflammatory properties helping with inflammation, minerals and nutrients. Once again with celery don’t throw out those leaves…juice ’em!
Dark leafy greens like kale, cabbage or Swiss chard are filled with minerals like magnesium, calcium and also a great source of the important Omega-3. Proper brain functions relies on proper levels of magnesium and Omega-3 so these are very important in the diet.
Just as a personal disclaimer..I’m not prescribing a juice to cure fibro fog, there’s no specific amount that you need to drink to feel the results or heal. The important point to take away from this is green juice is a great way to get larger amounts of highly nutritious foods into your diet. After all you are what you eat, so the more fruit, vegetables, leafy greens you can get into your diet the better you will feel. So pour a glass of green LIFE and enjoy!
Makes 28 ounces
Recipe:
3 celery stalks with leaves
3 green apples, cored
5 medium Swiss chard leaves
1 cup broccoli ( I used stems & leaves)
1 cup cabbage
Loose handful of basil
Put above ingredients through your juicer and pour into a glass and enjoy.

Hi Christine. Where did you get the mason jar that is pictured in this recipe? And did it come with that lid with the straw hole and straw? Thanks.
Hi yes, it came together. I bought it at a home goods store in here in Italy. But, if you’re in the US I would think Bed Bath & Beyond would have it or a Home Goods/TJ Maxx store. 🙂
