The opening of Matthew Kenney’s raw cuisine restaurant M.A.K.E. (on the 29th of this month has been long anticipated for me and my rawfoodie friends. We drove half way across Los Angeles despite carmaghedon, two full days of the busiest freeway being shut down! But it was well worth the efforts and it more than met our expectation. Not only was the food and service fabulous but it’s in Santa Monica, my all time favorite place in Los Angeles! It is just a wonderful spot to leave behind all your stress walking the beach, the breath-taking views of the Pacific Coast Highway, the Pier, the palm tree-lined streets, not to mention the promenade and the shops. Now I can add M.A.K.E to the list of favorite things to do there!
It is on the third floor of the outdoor mall Santa Monica Place in the Market Place.
This is the view of the Promenade from outside the restaurant.
This was some of my friends first time dining at a raw food restaurant, what a great choice for first timers. The highlight of the evening was that we got to meet Matthew Kenney himself! That was such a treat.
The presentation of the food was an artistic feast to set your eyes on! I just savored the delicate blends of flavors bite by bite. Some pictures of the dishes we ordered:
Beet citrus ginger juice. Isn’t it gorgeous?
Bartlett pear young celery juniper oil soup
This raw cheese platter was fabulous! Highly recommend it!
Another fabulous dish: Nori, Jicama, Avocado Rolls. Must try!
Here is a picture of our lovely server, the general manager and chef Scott Winegard
A glance into where his raw culinary school takes place. My dream is to one day attend!

Raw foods are so amazing and healing to begin with, but when you find a restaurant that catches the essence of bringing such healing foods to the height of their flavor and creates beauty to the eye it is perfection indeed!
