The products we use to clean our house with can seriously affect our health. In fact, the typical American home contains 3-10 gallons of toxic materials, contained in almost 60 different kinds of hazardous household cleaning products. In the year 2000, cleaning products were responsible for nearly 10% of all toxic exposures reported to U.S. Poison Control Centers, accounting for 206,636 calls. So, in effect the very products you are using to clean or disinfect your house with can actually be one of the main sources of toxins and indoor pollution. Sad to say, even many so-called “Green” products are only that in name, being nothing more than deceptive marketing.
Toxic cleaning products contain a class of chemicals called glycol ethers. When they come into contact with your skin, they enter directly into your bloodstream and are inhaled damaging the lungs. They even can cause anemia, intoxication and irritation of eyes and nose. They are so potent that they can penetrate plastic gloves coming into contact with your skin!
So when I find products that are truly “GREEN”, 100% natural and truly have no harmful side effects to our health or to the environment I am definitely interested. Last week I had a green, eco-friendly, chemical free cleaning company called Zerorez SoCal, come out and clean some of our upholstery, rugs and even bathroom. It was a great experience starting with the wonderful customer service! Everything looked and felt so clean and fresh afterward and what I really loved is that there were no hazardous chemicals left in the air to breathe in for hours later. In fact, all they use is high pressured alkaline water (at about a pH of 12) which acts as a soap in itself. It is so clean they call themselves “The Guys That Drink The Water”. Yes they will drink the water they use to show you just how pure and clean it is. I drank a glass myself and it tasted clean and pure just like my distilled water at home.
It’s so interesting to see how dust and dirt collect even when you may think your house is truly clean. After doing my research, I came to find out that our homes collect what is called deep dust. Deep dust is basically dust that collects at a level that the homeowner cannot usually see or even clean with normal cleaning methods. It accumulates over time and can cause severe allergies, exacerbate asthma and cause breathing issues, harbor foul odors and creates an overall unhealthy environment inside the home. That is why it is recommended to detox or deep clean your home quarterly to minimize this deep dust from accumulating along with other bacteria.
In my bathroom, where we often scrub down and wash the tiles they seemed to be clean and white. But after Jose, from Zerorez, got done with them they felt so smooth, clean and bright. It made the old tiles come to life!
He also cleaned a very old throw rug that we have had for years and used in the patio. I didn’t think there was any hope for it, but obviously I didn’t know Zerorez. I’ll let the pictures do the talking.
Big difference, no? The carpet has vibrant color again! this just proves that chemicals are not necessary to clean. Dump the toxic cleaning chemicals and detox your home the green, eco-friendly, chemical-free way, the safe way for you and your family!
