Dairy-Free Banana Milk

On the raw food diet there are so many alternatives to milk.  There are nut milks, seed milks, and coconut milk.  They are all delicious but the nut and seed milks especially need a high-speed blender to really get that creamy smooth texture.  So another delicious, easy alternative is banana milk.  You don’t need any fancy blender and you literally can make it in 30 seconds. It is creamy  like milk and you can add extra flavors like cinnamon or vanilla to really make it even tastier.  I use this as “milk” for my cereals and it works like a charm.  I also use it as a creamy drink for extra calories during the day.  You can even use it as the base of your smoothie to give it that “milkshake” texture.

Banana facts:

– The best time to eat bananas is when the skin is bright yellow with brown speckles because the starch has changed to fruit sugar and the fruit will be sweet and easy to digest.

– Bananas are a good source of potassium.  Potassium is essential for proper muscle contraction, and proper functioning of the heart and nervous system.

– Bananas have all the essential amino acids and one medium banana contains 1.29 grams of protein.

– Bananas are one of the highest sources of naturally available vitamin B6, which is essential for healthy immune system function, protein production and blood sugar maintenance.

– Bananas are rich in iron rich helps with hemoglobin production, which naturally helps with anemia.

– Bananas are rich in fiber that helps regulate the bowel functions.

Bananas are great as a snack or as a meal on the go because you can carry them wherever you go and they are prepackaged. 🙂  Whenever I am on the go I take several bananas with me to for a meal or a snack and no mess to clean up after, just discard the peel!

I told the kids what were in the ingredients and they said, “water”? Yuck. Then they tried it and loved it. Thanks Christine.

Oh Frances I’m so thrilled they loved it! It’s such a healthier alternative to milk for them too. Thanks for sharing!

Have you used “banana milk” as a substitute for non dairy milk in cooking? I was thinking of making a mac and “cheese” and using this “milk”. What do you think?

    • Christine on June 9, 2014 at 7:58 pm

I haven’t used it in cooked recipes, but I have used nut milks in cooked recipes and those work wonderful. For the recipe you are referring to I think the banana milk would be too sweet, but if you used almond milk or other nut milk I think that would be a great idea! Here is the link to my nut milk recipe https://glowingwhealth.wpenginepowered.com/creamy-delicious-almond-milk/. If you go into the search box on my home page I also have a Mac ‘N Cheese recipe if you want to check out. Enjoy! XO

How long do you think it would stay good in the fridge if I made a big batch?

    • Christine on July 2, 2014 at 1:55 pm

To be honest, it really is best used fresh. It may last tow days but the color turns brownish and the texture is as nice and creamy. I don’t recommend making a whole batch to store. If you want to do soemthing like that try coconut milk or almond milk those last for up to four days in the fridge.

I’ve been downing this stuff for the last few days. And i got to say that this stuff blew my mind! Especially with yellow peel ones. Just wish it would last longer when stored in the fridge (drinks always taste better when cold). Looks like i found my replacment for good old fashioned milk. I stopped drinking it four years ago, when i wondered at 21, “why did i still get acne around the face like i was still 13?”. Went cold turkey on it, and my face cleared! So the only real big source of “D” i’ve probably been getting is from the sun since then. Great sub for regular milk! I was trying to find a sub for milk for years, 3 different stores in either direction of my town, and all of them had the same brand of Cocconut and Almond milk that contained Carrageenan, which iv’e also tried to avoid. Its a shame when you want something that taste good, looking at the back of the label you get that dissapontment feeling. Anyway, this stuff is grand! Thx for this!

I’m so glad to hear that Greg! Unfortunately yes most of the mylks in the store have undesirable ingredients even though they’re passed off as “healthier” so it’s good to see you’re on top of reading the labels.Nothing like home made, tastes better too! Keep enjoying! Wish you the best in health.

I’m only 13 so most people wouldn’t expect me on sites like this but this has actually helped me a lot because I have eczema so I can’t have dairy or preservatives so it gets boring living off fruit and plain veggies so THANKYOU so much
And for those of u who want the drink to be cold try putting water in the fridge and using it to make it, this makes it cold ☺️
