I call this my cold buster smoothie because it is packed with vitamin C and has ginger which contains anti viral, anti bacterial, anti fungal and anti histamine properties. Wow, that alone is amazing! To see all the numerous benefits of ginger click here. The first thing most people think of as a source of vitamin C is oranges. But, actually red bell peppers provide three times the vitamin C that oranges do (yellow and orange peppers are high in vitamin C too).
I always love ginger as a tea or just adding it fresh into my foods when I feel a cold or anything respiratory coming on like a cough, because it feels so soothing and warming. This morning I woke up with a very scratchy throat, so in search of relief I right away went to the kitchen and made this, and it really did the trick! The warmth of the ginger just soothed my throat so wonderfully and that potent punch of vitamin C just gave me that extra little boost I needed! Plus, it just tastes fabulous. This is one of my favorites and I know you will love it too!
The red bell pepper gives a sweet kick to it too, yet is not over powering. If you’re not a huge fan of bell peppers maybe just start off with a half and taste first before adding the whole one. But the more you add the more vitamin C you will get.
